perfecting the "done before they arrive" party- a work in progress

Many Americans find themselves facing a big decision… what side dishes to serve with their Thanksgiving turkey. Despite all that is going on, the meal must also go on.

This holiday season with all that’s in in the air you might want to keep things on the simple side. Here are a few of my favorites for you to consider. Each one can be made well in advance- allowing you to spend more time with those you love, and not be trapped in the kitchen with those you don't.

My grandmother’s sausage stuffing is to die for. I double the sausage because let’s be honest who doesn’t love more sausage.

We adore Brussels sprouts with bacon, an incredible combination that can be prepped and partially cooked earlier in the day.

This simple stir-fry will please the purists in your group- green beans almandine.

My sister’s recipe for mashed potatoes is amazing and the best part is you can make it a day (or two) in advance.

Top these whipped sweet potatoes with mini marshmallows if you want a retro touch.

Be sure to make Carol’s cranberry chutney. It’s a truly heaven sent recipe from one of my mom’s best friends. It can be made several days ahead of time, but note that it must be made at least one day ahead otherwise it won’t gel, so plan accordingly.

Serving up a few of these is sure to bring all sides of your table together.

Happy thanksgiving- to one and all!
