hot sausage appetizer
Ingredients:
1 lb loaf Party Rye cocktail bread
1 lb bulk hot sausage, preferably Bob Evans or Jimmy Dean
1 lb ground chuck
1 lb Velveeta cheese, cut into pieces
1 tsp ground pepper
1 tsp dried oregano
Directions:
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cut the bed into triangles. Place on a heavy baking sheet. Lightly toast bread for 5-7 minutes. Set aside.
In a large skillet brown the sausage and ground beef. Drain and set aside.
In the same now empty skillet melt the Velveeta over medium low heat, stirring frequently. Add sausage and ground beef and mix well. Stir in the pepper and oregano.
Spread sausage/cheese mixture on toasted bread triangles, taking care to spread to edge. Place on a cookie sheet, cover with plastic wrap then foil and freeze until solid. Place frozen canapés in Ziploc bags.
To serve- preheat oven to 350 degrees. Thaw desired amount of sausage apps on a heavy baking sheet. Bake for ten minutes or until hot and bubbly.
