perfecting the "done before they arrive" party- a work in progress

Farm stands and markets are cropping up everywhere in southwestern Ohio. Worth the trip- the 2nd Street Market in downtown Dayton and the Yellow Springs Farmer’s Market. But I have to say that Dorothy Lane has a pretty incredible daily farmer’s market right inside their grocery store.

And right now the peaches from Branstrator Farm in Clarksville, Ohio are outstanding.

Theses Saturn peaches look like little donuts and are about as sweet, with their white flesh and almond overtones. Here’s a simple farm fresh dessert that is truly out of this world- grilled peaches with mascarpone and amaretti.

Cut each peach in half. Remove the pit, then cut again into quarters.

Heat the grill to high. Grill the peaches for about a minute per side or until grill marks appear.

Cut into a large dice and place in a large non-reactive bowl.

Gently toss the peaches with the freshly squeezed lemon juice, amaretto and powdered sugar to taste. Set aside.

The peaches can be made several hours in advance, cover and refrigerate (be sure to stir occasionally so the peaches don’t turn brown).

Meanwhile seal the amaretti cookies in a large Ziploc bag. Coarsely crumble by hitting the bag with the back of a wooden spoon. Set aside.

To serve smooth a tablespoon of mascarpone on the bottom of a sherbet or martini glass.

Toss the peaches once more and place a large spoonful of peaches on top of the mascarpone.

Top with a dollop of mascarpone. Sprinkle with crumbled amaretti cookies, then drizzle with a little of the remaining peach juice.

This weekend why don’t you pick a pint of these spectacular stars and see if they transport you to another galaxy!
